Friday Morning Metal – 3 Inches of Blood – Leather Lord
3 Inches of Blood, those masterful mavens of metal, have a new album coming out in late Smarch, called LONG LIVE HEAVY METAL. That’s such an awesome name. They also released one of their tracks, Leather Lord. It totally sounds like it could be a track on Priest’s Painkiller. SO AWESOME.

3 Inches of Blood are one of the best metal acts of the past 10 years. And here’s their cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” Totally amazing.
Friday Morning Metal – Powerglove – Tetris
Powerglove combines two of my favorite things: video games and metal. Behold, their take on Korobeiniki, otherwise known as “That Tetris Song.”
They also do a kickass cover of the Power Rangers theme.
Friday Morning Metal – Primal Fear – Angel In Black
Europe has been pumping out great metal acts forever. Which is great, since current metal in the US is weird and I don’t like it. Primal Fear’s been rockin since 1997, and this is Angel In Black. They formed when the singer didn’t get tapped to replace Halford in Priest in the 90s. Given that they kick ass, and Halford returned to Priest, maybe this was the best outcome.
Friday Morning Metal – Falconer – Vid Rosornas Grav
One of my buddies got me listening to Falconer back in college. They have a pretty epic sound, kind of like heavy metal minstrels. And the singer, Matthias Blad, is phenomenally talented. It’s unfortunate they don’t tour in the US, I’d love to see them live. Anyway, here’s Vid Rosornas Grav.

There are a lot of themes for metal bands: Vikings, Pirates, Wizards, you name it. Sabaton is a very special band: World War II metal. Specifically, the Polish Army in WWII. Protip: if you’re on a bike, you can match your cadence to the beat of 40:1 and go warp 1.

We’ve got some crazy ass Brazilian speed/power metal today. Hibria, with Tiger Punch. The bass riff in the intro is nuts.

It’s difficult to figure out where different bands fit within the Metal pantheon, but this Map of Metal is pretty legit. It’s also awesome to learn about metal on a giant map that looks like the back of a denim jacket. Or that Stone Cold Crazy is a Queen song. I bet that makes me sound uneducated.
