Friday Morning Metal – Sabaton – All Guns Blazing

Sabaton’s got a new album, and on that album is a delightful cover of Judas Priest’s All Guns Blazing. So you get to hear that today! Doing the song as a duet between the lead singer and one of their guitarists makes it fun, you get the solid Sabaton sound and then a dude trying really hard to mimic the Scream, so much that even Wikipedia editors don’t know what’s up:

The cover definitely has a bigger, sort of industrial sound on it, which is great. I like when bands put their own spin on a cover and don’t just try to do the song exactly the same as the original.

Friday Morning Metal – Sabaton – To Hell And Back

WOO SABATON! War power metal has always been a fun listen for me. One, the driving march style beats are fantastic, especially when I’m biking around or trying to do things quickly. Two, I get to learn about wars and battles I may not be aware of. And Sabaton’s been a purveyor of WWII crazy metal for quite some time. They have a new album coming out, Heroes, and the first video out is pretty interesting. To Hell And Back covers the horrors of war, primarily PTSD. I think it’s cool move on their part; their previous albums highlight the glory and some of the horror of war, but on a grander scale. This dives a bit more into the personal cost of war.

The synth keyboards and flutes in the song give it kind of a disco groove, almost like something you’d hear along with Tursisas’ Ra Ra Rasputin.

Friday Morning Metal – Sabaton – Carolus Rex

It’s pretty awesome when an act can maintain a theme for a ton of albums. Running Wild, Swashbuckle, and Alestorm have pirate metal locked up. Powerwolf is really diving headlong into… werewolf metal? But they sing about vampires too, so that’s a thing. And Sabaton’s managed to hold steady and draw from historical battles as musical inspiration for 6 full albums. Their album, Carolus Rex, is available in Swedish and English, and draws from 17th century Swedish battles and monarchy.

Here’s a fan-made video, pretty heady stuff.
