Friday Morning Metal – Unlocking the Truth – Take Control

Hey remember that band with the 12 and 13 year olds who shred? Unlocking the Truth? Their album, Chaos, finally came out, and it’s pretty solid. It’s got a bit of the American pop-metal sound that was prevalent in the early 2000’s, drop-tuned with some growly vocals and then harmonic rides in various spots. So if that’s your jam, they crush it.

I’m really looking forward to see how they progress here. Maybe they’ll branch out and incorporate some thrash or speed metal into their songs. Maybe they’ll become the next version of Starland Vocal Band. Maybe they’ll keep doing what they’re doing. Whatever it is, I’m sure they’ll do a great job of it.

Here’s the official video for Take Control.

Sometimes I’ll watch guitar training videos on Youtube, and it’s like Herman Lee teaching pentatonic stuff, or Skwisgaar Skwigelf teaching about sweeps picks. And then I want to put my guitar away forever because I am bad at it. And now there is a band of tweens, Unlocking the Truth, who make me want to hand them all my musical equipment and become an accountant.

These kids started out playing in Times Square, next to the freaky Elmos & whatnot, and now they have a record deal and are playing some solid metal. It’ll be great to see how they progress from here, since they’re already better than 90% of the dreck that’s come out of the US metal scene in the past 10 years.
