Friday Morning Metal – Rattlesnakes – Shadows in the Night

Oooh we got a new band this week, it’s Nottingham’s own Rattlesnakes playing Shadows in the Night. I wonder if someone in the band is a sheriff. I sure hope that’s the case. Since they’re super new, Encyclopedia Metallum doesn’t have their themes. But maybe it’s shadows, and creepy crawlies. Or just “rad.” That’d be a good theme. They’re on Listenable Records which is some good nominative determinism based on how listenable this band is.

The song starts off with some guitar distortion before kicking fully into gear. Like 10th gear. Whatever gear makes you want to drive your rocket powered, monkey navigated sled across the wastelands. The drums are completely badass and use a bit of blast beats from time to time but not enough to overdo it. I’m really digging the vocal stylings of the singer, she’s got a good edge to her voice but still belts out falsettos real well. I know they’re from Nottingham, but there’s something about how she says certain phrases where they don’t line up with the subtitles. Maybe she’s putting different emphasis on different syllables or something. During the rock pose we get some solid basswork, transitioning to a very shreddy guitar solo. They manage to pack three minutes with everything that makes a metal song extra metal, and now I’m looking forward to more from these shredders.

The video is the band on a soundstage doing their thing. Which is pretty great; they’re new so it’s more opportunity to see them shred. Also I dig the singer’s yeti-skin boots. We also get a badass rock pose from the guitarists and bassists, that’s very important to show how much they shred. The wall of Marshall speakers is pretty great, gives off a good 1988 vibe to it.
