Friday Morning Metal – Overkill – Goddamn Trouble

Overkill, those New Jersey thrash monsters, have another album coming up, called the Grinding Wheel. Goddamn Trouble’s one of the pre-releases, and it’s pretty great. The vocals have a bit of a southern rawk/bluesy vibe to it, which I haven’t really heard on top of thrash before, but it’s an intriguing pairing.

The guitar & drumwork is the same frenetic drive you expect from Overkill, something that could be the backing track to a workout montage or crime spree. The solo comes late but it’s solid and soaring, very fitting. Also it’s fun seeing a bunch of dudes what look like grandspas shredding all over a music video.

Anyway, behold, Goddamn Trouble!

Friday Morning Metal – Overkill – Armorist

Apparently Overkill has been around forever. And they are still thrashing all over the countryside. They have a new album out, White Devil Armory, which sounds pretty crazy. Their single, Armorist, comes on like a freight train, kicking you in the face with gnarly double kick, machine gun guitars, and fantastic vocals. It’s a GDMF metal anthem, which we need more of. There’s even a minor bass solo!

I want to see these guys live, hopefully it’s not at a GD casino. Or I guess a GDMF casino.
