Friday Morning Metal – 8-Bit Style

Powerglove, CarboHydroM, and the Minibosses are great bands that do metal/hard rock covers of 8-bit and 16-bit video game songs. Excite Bike, for instance. Or Contra. Well yesterday I stumbled into a terrific rabbit hole of 8-bit covers of metal songs. And now I want to play the video games that would have these songs, because I bet they’d be next to impossible (Hi Contra without the Konami code) and totally kickass.

Dethklok – Thunderhorse. Great boss fight music, like if the boss was in a helicopter or something and you were commandos shooting rockets and lasers at it.

Iron Maiden – Fear of the Dark. This one starts off slow, like an intro to a Castlevania almost.

Judas Priest – Painkiller. Double kick totally sounds like helicopter noises. They don’t even attempt to recreate Halford’s vocals, I don’t think 8-bit has a “Metal God” tone I guess.

Dragonforce – Through the Fire and Flames. All these songs would be kickass final battle songs.

Friday Morning Metal – Dethklok – Dethalbum III

Greetings and salutations! Dethklok’s Dethalbum III came out Tuesday, so they get a Friday morning metal treatment. It’s a pretty great metal album, the solos sound like what Brendon Small put out in Galaktikon, his epic space rock opera.

I’ve listened to it a few times and it continues the progression that Dethalbum II took. You get the same guitarmonies and face melting guitar solos, crazy double kick for entire songs, and NATHAN EXPLOOOOOOSIONNNNNNN.

For being built around a cartoon poking fun at metalheads and taking a Spinal Tap-ish look at being “The biggest metals band in the knowns universe,” every Dethalbum stands on its own as a fantastic metal album.

Here’s Crush the Industry:

So the album is awesome and you should buy it on the Amazon. Dethalbum III

Friday Morning Metal – Dethklok – Birthday Dethday

MANY YEARS AGO TODAY SOMETHING GREW INSIDE OF MY MOTHER. THAT THING WAS ME. ME.

Most brutal birthday song ever. Gotta blast it every year.

Extra special kickass bonus, Brendon Small released a track today for Dethalbum III, titled “I Ejaculate Fire.” Guess that’s what happens when you nails too manies groupies.

Friday Morning Metal – Dethklok – Go Into the Water

Metalocalypse just finished up its fourth season, with one of the craziest finales yet. Can’t wait for season 5 to start up, even though it probably won’t be for another year and a half. Making cartoons sounds difficult. But Dethalbum III will come out and all will be right in the world for a time.

And to commemorate the band going into the water, here’s Go Into the Water.

Friday Morning Metal – Brendon Small – Dangertits

Brendon Small’s Galaktikon is a concept space metal album, and totally awesome. And they even have a song called Dangertits which sounds like a track off a Dethklok album. It definitely sounds like the song that would start when you’re about to get into an epic space battle with Space Odin or something. Or a killer followup to “Crush My Battle Opponents’ Balls” which I still would love to hear a full version of.

Friday Morning Metal – Dethklok – Hatredcopter

Season 4 of Dethklok starts April 29th, which is fantastic news. I have missed the exploits of the greatest band in all the universe. So because of that, today’s Friday Morning Metal is Hatredcopter, off their first album, and apparently in one of the Saw movies. And in trying to pick out a good video to embed, I realized half of these Dethklok videos could cause seizures. Awesome heavy metal seizures.

Friday Morning Metal – Dethklok – Go Forth And Die

Brendon Small is a phenomenal musician. From his work on Home Movies to the music of Dethklok, everything he’s made is just awesome. And it turns out he’s got an album coming out soon, Galaktikon. I’m pretty sure it will be awesome as hell. Anyway, here’s Dethklok’s “Go Forth And Die” which seems kinda fitting given all the Occupying going on and whatnot.
