Friday Morning Metal – Innerwish – Sea of Lies

Greek power metal featuring the singer from Blind Guardian? Well that’s gotta be a good portent. I hadn’t heard of Innerwish until checking out the video, they’ve been shredding and blasting beats since 1995. And they have a really tight sound that comes with being a nearly 30-year-old band.

The song has a ton of bombast, and Hansi Kürsch’s soaring vocals pair well with George Eikosipentakis’s growl. Hansi kinda looks like Steve Lemme, too. I dig the dueling guitar solo after the breakdown, it’s not crazy noodly but it stands out, especially when both guitarists are in split screen. Gotta have a good split screen. The drums and bass really drive the song along such that you don’t notice it’s six and a half minutes long. Gotta imagine it’d be great for keeping a swift pace on a run or bike ride.

The song’s about traversing the seas as a refugee, from the perspective of a child. The lyrics cover the uncertainty of traveling to a new unkown place. It also has video from refugee camps, so if that’s a bit too much for you to see today, I put a Spotify embed below.

Friday Morning Metal – Blind Guardian – The Ninth Wave

Blind Guardian has a new album, filled with all the pomp and awesome that makes for a Blind Guardian album. I almost spelled it Bling Guardian twice, which would be a great band name.

The Ninth Wave has the bombastic sound and big vocal harmonies that make Blind Guardian great. So are they guardians who can’t see, or are they guardians of those who can’t see?

Here’s the Ninth Wave:

Friday Morning Metal – HEAVY METAL CHRISTMAS

Hey you know Christopher Lee? World renowned actor famous for being Dracula and/or Saruman? The very same actor who did voice overs in Blind Guardian albums? Well I just learned that he’s making a Heavy Metal Christmas Album!

This is some amazing stuff. The dude has some pipes, though it’s a bit different than the high pitched wailing I’m used to on power metal tracks.

There’s even a playlist on the Spotify if you’re so inclined.

Friday Morning Metal – Demons & Wizards – Crimson King

Demons & Wizards features guys from Blind Guardian (Rad) and Iced Earth (Rad), making a band that is pretty epic. Their cover of Immigrant Song is fantastic, I definitely prefer it over the Led Zeppelin version. And since I haven’t been smote by lightning or a giant guitar falling from the sky, I feel comfortable in my claim. Here’s one of their songs, Crimson King, it’s totally rad.
