Friday Morning Metal – Molybaron – Lucifer

Here comes some Irish metal by way of Paris, it’s Lucifer by Molybaron. They’ve been around since 2014 but are not in the Encyclopaedia Metallum, though they do have a wikipedia entry, so way to go for online reference. I wonder if the existence of Molybaron suggests that there may be a Holybaron, a Rolybaron, or a a Molystarosta.

The song starts with an opening clean guitar riff that crescendos into the main melody and a kickstart from the drums. You can sorta tell the singer is Irish, especially when he says Lucifer. Can’t get away from the brogue there. The bass is tuned well into the mix, so you can hear it slappa all over the place. Kudos to Sébastien de Saint-Angel on these sick bass grooves. While there isn’t a guitar solo, the riffs are sick and drive you through a great song. At 3 and a half minutes, they don’t waste much time, but everything about the band and the song is tight and great. Definitely looking forward to more Barons of Moly.

The video splits between band footage and a business man starting his business day until he decides to look into his very empty-seeming briefcase. I think it had a note in it that said “go bananas” because he stumbles around for a while then winds up in a cage. And then some child of the corn locks him in there. Poor guy. Unless he’s bad news, then he’s where he’s supposed to be. The guy looks kind of like Dave Matthews, maybe this is punishment for the Chicago incident. Also I think the child of the corn is played by Nina Charbonnier, not to be confused with Charbonnet, a delicious wine drink Captain Holt houses on Brooklyn 99.
